Cleaning and recycling
There will be waste containers (glass-, metal-, bio- and mixed waste, and coffee grounds) in the maintenance area, where the waste produced at the stand can be emptied. Each stand takes care of their own trash cans.
If you are using disposable cups or plates etc. they should be 100% biodegradable.
There is NO built in drainage at the event area, so all the waste water produced at the stands needs to be delivered to the maintenance area to be emptied.
The event organizer is responsible for the general cleaning of the venue. Each stand is responsible for the cleaning of their own areas.

The event's maintenance area has waste bins for different types of waste, including glass, metal, bio, mixed waste, and coffee grounds. Exhibitors can dispose of waste generated at their stands in these bins. However, each exhibitor is responsible for managing the waste bins at their own stand.
If an exhibitor uses disposable tableware, it must be 100% biodegradable.

Towards a More Environmentally Friendly Event
Collecting Used Coffee Grounds
This year, we will also be collecting used coffee grounds at the event. Thank you for participating in waste reduction!
Coffee grounds should be collected at your stand during the event day in a separate container and transferred to a larger collection bin in the maintenance area at the end of the day. Please consider this when planning waste management at your stand to ensure smooth collection.
This is a new and important waste reduction initiative at Helsinki Coffee Festival, implemented in collaboration with VG Port. Used coffee grounds are an excellent raw material for home gardening and will be further processed by Berner Oy into nutrients and growing mediums.

Reusable Tasting Cups at the Event
Helsinki Coffee Festival will once again use Green Cup’s reusable tasting cups. This system received a lot of positive feedback last year from both visitors and participating companies.
How Does the Deposit System Work?
Visitors can collect a tasting cup from the event info desk by paying a deposit.
The cup can be exchanged for a clean one at designated info points.
Deposit payments and refunds are handled by the event organizer.
For Exhibitors:
No need to order deposit cups separately for your stand. There will be couple of stations where visitors can collect and exchange cups.
Preparing for Disposable Cups
While the goal is to reduce disposable tableware, we recommend having biodegradable disposable cups at your stand.
Since reusable cups are being tested for the second time, we cannot yet fully predict their demand.
The use of tasting cups is an important step towards a disposable-free event.
We welcome feedback on reusable cups during and after the event!
